Christmas edition!

Things I made: Christmas edition!

Some of these things aren't super exciting or extravagant, but I've had a good time being festive this season!

Reindeer bells - mini clay pots, google eyes, pom poms, pipe cleaner, ribbon

Advent calendar - this was a long time in coming! Made of a plywood board, clothespins, ribbon, paint. Numbers transfered on with graphite and finished with a Sharpie.

Our Christmas tree!

Christmas charm bracelet - silver chain and charms, lightbulb buttons. I made a gold version for my mom as well!

And finally, the ever waited on Lebkuchen. Sorry friends, family recipe! But by far the most labour intensive baking I have ever done - these babies took me over 3 1/2 hours to make!

I will be sure to post another catch-up edition in the new year. Until then...

Things I made: bracelets and rings

October has been a fairly crazy month for me. Lots of employment but little time for play! Here are a few things I've squeezed in some time to make...

Chocolate brown leather double wrap bracelet for Tam. Czech crystal beads, brown leather, and shell button.

Silver spacers in brown leather double wrap bracelet. Silve flower button closure. (also for Tam!)

Another turquoise wire wrapped ring (silver). These have apparently been popular! One for Sydney and one up for grabs...

Pink irridescent square bead with silver wire wrapped ring. The photos just don't do the colour justice but I think this is really pretty! I also experimented here with thinner wire (22 guage vs 20) and it did give a more delicate finish despite being a bit finnicky to work with!

Things I made: necklace, bracelet, anklet

August has been hectic but I finally had some downtime to craft today. I have a few things on the go still for the next few days as well, including some jewelry ordered by my lovely cousin Tam!

I am slowly creating a more functional Etsy website and have signed up for PayPal so I can hopefully start taking orders through this blog/email as well.

Necklace with mauve coloured pearls and sterling silver chain

Anklet (for Robyn - congratulations on your wedding!)
Lime green Czech crystal with white accent on tan leather with wooden button closure

Blue-green Czech crystal double leather wrap bracelet with metal button closure

Thing I made: Cheesecake

I love cheesecake. In case no one has yet noticed, I have a large sweet tooth. But I've always been hesitant to make it without occasion/someone to help me eat it, because otherwise I'll end up eating the whole thing and that can never end well. So I finally had a reason to make a cheesecake...

Cheesecake with fresh strawberries (happy birthday Joel!)

This was pretty experimental for me. I don't have a spring-form pan (one where the sides come off - ideal for cheesecake making), so I used a pie plate instead. It looks a little funny, but it tasted fine (ok, it tasted more than fine, if I do say so myself...)

It was also one of the easiest things I've made! I used the recipe here (though I had only bought two bricks of cream cheese, so I tried to adjust the recipe to 2/3 - actually probably perfect for a pie plate). It was basically mixing together the crust, and then throwing all the ingredients into a food processor for a few minutes before baking. Heaven.

The batter tasted like cream cheese icing (amazing) and the finished product was pretty yummy. The only thing I still don't understand is the finishing with the sour cream/sugar mixture...seems a little redundant and looks less than delicious - I would probably leave this out next time.

I may now have to invest in a spring-form pan...and find other uses for it too, of course! But I would definitely make this again (if someone wants to help me eat it...)
